How to silence the vuvuzela
A lot of people find the sound of the Vuvuzela annoying. Here is a simple solution to reduce (or completely get rid of) the Vuvuzela noise by using of an effect known as a noise canceller. Please listen to the clip to hear just how effective this method is. If you have a home recording studio, it should be pretty easy for you to set this up. Everyone else can e-mail their TV network and ask them to implement this solution. This is how you do it: Insert a noise canceller effect in the sound chain (aka hum canceller, vocal canceller etc). Set the effect to 233 Hz (the Vuvuzela sound is around this frequency). Adjust the width, depth, threshold etc. of the effect for desired amount of Vuvuzela reduction. Enjoy a Vuvuzela free World Cup! I used the « hum canceller » on my old Roland VS 1680 workstation to do this clip. It should be a piece of cake for the networks to insert a similar effect before broadcasting the signal. This effect is, however, not the same as an ordinary EQ. But don’t ask me exactly how a noise canceller works. I just know it worked wonders for me.
