iPhone 3g Poor Reception

Look at how the reception changes as I reposition the way I’m holding the phone from the back(where I believe the antenna is) of the phone to the front. There have been lots of talks about « is it the network or is it the hardware ». Well I firmly believe it is all about the hardware. I actually own an older 2g iPhone and holding it in the same spot in any position I want it will beat the 3g iPhone in reception. Now I’m sure you’ve noticed that I was on the Edge network and that is because we don’t currently have 3g in this area. I really think it is hardware related. Maybe it is a simple mistake made by Apple or just a horribly cheap antenna they use. But I hope this is resolved by a recall or something of that nature. This same thing has been talked about all over the net about bad 3g reception, well I’ve seen it said about Edge too and that is my case. If anyone else can explain why this is please let me know. And yes my 3g is disabled so I will only run off of Edge. And please no comments about « oh well just stop covering up the antenna to get better reception ». Because if I were on the phone I would be holding it the same way.
