I know how much influence Scotland has had on some Caribbean islands especially Barbados (I posted earlier about how many of the first white settlers in Barbados were Scottish e.g. James Fenty. and some Scottish names being used throughout the country) but I was just wondering if Bajan’s are well informed of this knowledge? Like do Bajan’s feel any close connection to Scotland? From a Scot xxx
@chennessy21 Actually a lot of it is. For example, Rihanna’s last name is Fenty. This name originated in Scotland from a region in the North West Highlands. One of the first white settlers in Barbados was a man named James Fenty (Scottish Born) and I believe this to be a very common name in Barbados. So there is a strong Scottish connection in Barbados and other Caribbean islands. Hence St. Andrew’s parish in Barbados, named so because Scottish slaves believed it looked so similar to Scotland.
