Nicolas Cage and Claire Foy interview about ‘Season of the Witch’

www.hitfix.com « Although Cage is no stranger to certain kinds of period films — think « Birdie » or « Windtalkers » or « Peggy Sue Got Married » — « Season of the Witch » offered a major historical departure, plus his first opportunity to act on a horse. The hook for « Season of the Witch » is the swordplay and the supernatural intrigue, but underneath that surface is a film that’s every bit as much about the power of religion to do great good, but also great evil. I sat down with Cage — fresh off a plane from the set of his upcoming « Ghost Rider » sequel — and Foy on a snowy late-November morning in London to discuss both sides of their film, which opens in theaters on Friday (Jan. 7).  » – Daniel Fienberg Read the rest at www.hitfix.com

I bet Nick Cage failed his English lit paper. Here’s what he said about this movie. It has a « strong buddy aspect… relationships amongst the boys… there’s a road trip aspect to it » wtf?

    Pretty good movie!

The movie was lacking. Characters were too transparent. Storyline was underdeveloped. Turmoil points, conscience of crisis, the town maze, the rotted bridge, the wolf kill were predictable. The only actors that showed any depth to their character were the witch and the acconpanying priest. The other acting was sophomoric at best. Perlman reminded me more of his SoA character than a 14th century Teutonic knight. Cage couldn’t have been anymore bland in his performance. 5 stars… I give 2 at best

The movie was a great concept, but lacked true turmoil events that would lead ones mind to be strtched to delve deeper into the theme. The turmoil points, the bridge, the town maze, the crisis of conscience, were very weak and predictable. Cage and Perlman need more acting classes if they are to act like period Teutonic knights with faith doubts and faith convictions. Perlman was too like his SoA character. The characters were too easily readable. Out of 5 stars I would give it 2 at best.
