Uruguay – France 2-1. 1966 World cup. Group stage

This is the only win of Celeste in the 1966 World cup in England. Uruguay qualified from the group stage thanks to two goaless draws, against England and Mexico respectively. In quarterfinals, they lost heavily against Germany, mainly because of scandalous refereeing. This was the only game of the tournament, played at White City staduim in London, as all the other five matches of this group took place at Wembley. This very day Wembley curiously hosted dog racing, which was considered as more important thing than the football world cup itself!
